Makeup Artists Reveal the 9 Best Makeup Trends for 2023

Last fall, I had the pleasure of attending New York Fashion Week to preview spring and summer beauty moments, and let me tell you: It got me pretty excited about the makeup trends for 2023. Believe me, 2023 is going to be the year everyone has fun and does their makeup the way they want, whether that means putting on colored eyeliner at work or completely covering their brows like Bella Hadid , Kilpriity said.

I chatted with makeup artists Victor Anaya, Nydia Figueroa, and Jamie Greenberg about all the ins and outs of 2023′s biggest makeup trends on the runways, on the red carpet, and even on TikToks. Check out all of our favorite looks below.

01: Retro makeup from the 90s

If there was ever a decade that influenced makeup the most, it would be the 90s. The rich, warm brown tones reappear on the eyes and lips, and of course the smoky black eyeliner and eye shadow, and the chocolate and mid-tone brown lip liner under a thin coat of lip gloss.

02: Underpainting makeup technique

Those who regularly watch Tiktok videos will find that underpainting (a makeup technique that makes the skin look smooth and fresh) has become popular. Achieving this look requires you to blend your contour and eye concealer before applying your foundation.

03: Cool-toned eyeshadow

Cool shades will be the new neutrals in 2023, such as dusty purple, blush and smoky gray. This cool-toned eyeshadow offers a more glamorous look than traditional eyeshadow shades.

04: Siren eyes

The easiest way to recreate this trend is to dab waterproof eyeliner on the tip of an angled eyeliner brush and stamp it on the inner and outer corners of your eyes for defined wings.

05: Mid-tone blushing

Blush has always been an essential part of makeup. What TikTok calls “middle tone blush” — a technique that blurs blush and eye makeup together for a seamless look. The method is also quite simple, as the last step of daily makeup, use a fluffy smudger brush and clear setting powder to lightly bake your under eye area, then apply a blush that is one shade lighter than the first application on the edge, Diffuse translucent powder into blush.

06: Minimal makeup

With the advancement of makeup technology, people now want their makeup to look like their own skin, rather than constantly superimposed makeup products.

07: Shimmery cheekbones

Use shimmery powders to create a bright, sharp finish. Creates a no-nonsense glow best in front of a camera flash.

08: Pastel makeup looks

The latest color trend for 2023 is dopamine dressing. You can wear bright eye shadow, lavish purple blush on your cheeks, or add a layer of neon pink lipstick to make your look pop.

09: Concealer brows

Have you ever seen bleached eyebrows? If you want to try it, do so, on the back of your hand, dab concealer, brush it over your brows until they are fully covered, then set it in place with setting powder.

These trends are all known trends in 2023, but there are still many unknown things, and makeup has been improving. We look forward to an even better 2023.
