Coquette makeup is the next beauty trend that’s all about hyper-femininity

One beauty trend that’s predicted to be big for next year is coquette makeup, a style that’s said to be flattering on everyone.

In Beauty Pie’s latest beauty trend report, they concluded that ‘nostalgia is playing a big part in many of the top 10 makeup trends that are set to take over in 2023.’

They add: ‘From coquette makeup (all about embracing hyper-feminity – think Lana Del Rey eyeliner, soft pink blushed cheeks and delicate pastels) to Avril Lavigne makeup, glam grunge makeup, and stick-on gems, as well as doe eye makeup, popsicle lips and Barbie makeup. The ’00s are back.’
Searches for coquette makeup have jumped by over 1,500%, showing interest is already on the rise. Makeup artist Sarah Rose Davies, of S Blend Makeup, says: ‘Coquette makeup is a trend focused around ultra-feminine styles and colours.

‘It really embraces rosy hues and petal-soft colours as well as big lashes to give the pretty-in-pink look a more mature edge. ‘It’s obvious why so many people are recreating to this on TikTok as it is extremely pretty.’ She believes the main reason it’s having a moment now is that celebrity style icons have been ‘channelling their own coquette looks online’.

Sydney Sweeney, Olivia Rodrigo, Ariana Grande, just to name a few, have all recently sported heavily pink-blushed cheeks and pearlescent nose and cheekbones.

‘It is very similar to the makeup looks seen on big shows like Bridgerton, where the female leads are made to look extremely feminine and all have a lit-from-within glow,’ Sarah says.

‘Coquette makeup is all about light dewy skin, with soft natural pinks and blush, so the best way to achieve this is by remembering that less is more. ‘It’s definitely here to stay because it really can be worn by anyone.’
